Raiders coach Ricky Stuart said Wighton was still a work in progress, but would start to feel completely comfortable over the final rounds of their season.

As Wighton improves, so will his combination with the Green Machine's spine - which was starting to click ahead of their crucial clash against the Brisbane Broncos at Canberra Stadium on Easter Sunday.

The Raiders are looking for their third straight win of the season to end a six-game losing streak against the Broncos.

Stuart said his team would run out 1-17, barring any game-day mishaps, after completing the captain's run unscathed on Saturday.

That included Wighton, who struggled with a hip problem ahead of the win over Parramatta.

Stuart's part way through moulding Wighton from a fullback into a No.6.

It's the 26-year-old's second stint at five-eighth, having been thrust into the role in 2014 before settling as a custodian for the past four years.

"Aidan and Sam are both very experienced guys in managing their team," Stuart said.

"I've noticed little things in Jack's game that are starting to improve and develop, and little things I want to keep trying to slowly introduce into Jack's game.

"At the back end of the season he will find himself very, very comfortable into the role."

Wighton's not the only part of the spine that's firing, with halfback Sam Williams keeping Aidan Sezer out of the team with his form, and hooker Josh Hodgson pulling the strings from dummy half.

They're finding the perfect balance between Hodgson and Williams' deft kicking games, as well as when Wighton gets the ball.

Wighton's running game has looked dangerous, especially on the left edge, while he's quickly adapted to using his booming left boot.

So good has his form been, it's Broncos five-eighth Anthony Milford who has the spotlight on his performances coming into the game.

Milford and halves-partner Kodi Nikorima are under the pump for the Broncos' 1-4 win-loss record.

Sezer's on the comeback from an oblique injury and he's vowed to push Williams and Wighton with his Mounties form in the NSW Cup.

"Aidan came to me during the week and said, 'How could you change it. I totally understand and I'll go back and do everything I've got to do playing for Mounties'," Stuart said.

"It was very similar to last year where he filled in and played hooker for us at the start of the year. It was uncomfortable for him, but he did it because it was the best thing for the team."

A large number of injuries over the opening rounds of the NRL have prompted calls for the number of interchanges to reduce from eight to six, and potentially even four.

Stuart backed it and said it could have a flow on effect for juniors as well and help improve their fitness.

"I've been very strong on bringing the interchange back for about three or four years now," he said.

"I believe it's got to happen not just at a senior level, but at junior level from around your under-14s to 16s.

"It's going to come into play. I think it's going to be better for the NRL. I believe it can enhance the quality of our game.

"In today's game at the NRL level, players are definitely fit enough to have an interchange reduction."
