Police say the Symonston man, who was driving a stolen blue Ford Falcon, was first identified at a Wanniassa service station around 10.55pm. The vehicle had been reported stolen on Sunday.
Police attempted to pull the car over a short time later but the man failed to stop and accelerated towards Erindale Drive.
After speeding through O’Malley, Isaacs and Wanniassa, the car eventually mounted a gutter and came to a stop near the intersection of Ashley Drive and Erindale Drive.
The 49-year-old then ran from the car on foot before being caught and arrested by police officers.
Ian William Kelly, 49, of Symonston, did not apply for bail when he appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
Kelly is charged with driving a stolen car, driving while disqualified, reckless driving, and failing to stop for police.
He will reappear in court again in the coming weeks.
