After splitting Saturday's doubleheader with the Brisbane Bandits in Brisbane, the Canberra Cavalry now need Perth to win both their remaining games against Adelaide otherwise their season is over.
One of those Heat-Bite games was played late last night in Perth.
The Cavalry won the first game 2-1 on Saturday, but then lost the second 3-2.
Cavalry infielder Jeremy Barnes said they ''fell off the wagon''.
''We're in a situation now where if Adelaide wins tonight it's over for us,'' he said.
''If you have to rely on a team to beat someone, Perth are doing well so you like your chances, but you want to be in your own hands and we had it in our own hands and we let it slip through our fingers.
''It's nobody's fault but our own … we just fell off the wagon here in the last month, it's as simple as that.
''If we just played 500 ball the past month we'd be in the play-offs right now.''
Whether they make the play-offs or not, the Cavalry have at least been entertaining, although their fans could've done without so many close games.
And that's what it was in both games of the doubleheader.
The Sydney Blue Sox beat the Melbourne Aces 4-2 to secure their finals berth.
Canberra and the Bandits wrap up their four-game series on Sunday at 12pm.
