With Christmas approaching, ACT Policing is preparing for one of the busiest operational periods of the year.
Our priority is to ensure our roads are safe for all travellers this summer.
The loss of six people on Canberra's roads this year is six too many.
For many drivers, over-familiarity with the task of driving, together with confidence and experience, present both advantages and dangers on our roads. Realise that each trip could easily end in terrible grief if you don't treat driving with the respect and attention it deserves.
The decisions people make like speeding, driving tired, consuming drugs or alcohol or driving while distracted can have serious consequences such as injuring yourself, others or even death. Do you want that on your conscience for the rest of your life?
ACT Policing, in co-operation with NSW Police, will conduct high-visibility patrols on major arterial roads in and out of Canberra to ensure you reach your destination safely.
The summer season is a time to be enjoyed with family and friends, not spent in hospital or grieving for someone who has been seriously injured or involved in a fatality.
On behalf of ACT Policing, I wish you all an enjoyable and safe summer.
