Suliman Negah face the ACT Supreme Court on Wednesday after earlier pleading guilty to the charge over drugs police alleged were worth up to $175,000.
The court heard both the prosecution and defence on sentencing, but Justice Chrissa Loukas-Karlsson adjourned the matter without a sentence, which is due to be handed down in August.
Justice Loukas-Karlsson told the court the man had a significant criminal history, thought there was no evidence to suggest he played a wider role in the criminal enterprise than that of a drug courier.
The court heard Negah, who had a gambling addiction, had committed the crime for a financial benefit, in order to help pay off a debt of about $15,000.
ACT Police caught the man with the drugs hidden inside the well of a spare tyre in the back of his car after pulling the car over on the Federal Highway in an operation earlier this year.
It was one of the larger recent seizures of ice in Canberra, with police at the time saying it could have led to up to 10,000 individual hits being sold on the city's streets.
