You've got no chance. Because even though he has lost count of how many times he's been the Canberra Raiders' 18th man this year, his attitude typifies why the Green Machine have a title shot.
"This is my home. I've been with the Raiders for basically 13 years. To be 18th man and be a part of Canberra turning green, I'm excited," Williams said.
"I get just as much of a thrill as this club being a success as anyone else, so I'm looking forward to it."
This isn't Sam Williams being nice or saying the right things in an interview. This is Sam Williams every day of the week, pushing others to be better even if he's not in the team.
The Canberra halfback played 10 games this year, but Ricky Stuart's gut feeling in June changed the course of his season.
Stuart rested Williams to give Aidan Sezer a shot in the No. 7 jersey. How did Williams react? With a smile.
"It was an opportunity to rest the body back then. It underlines how important having more than just 17 players are," Williams said.
"Sez played really well. Of course you want to play, but you've just got to accept it. It's not hard at all to get excited.
"I'm as excited as anyone, I can't wait for the game. There are a lot of people in this club who do a lot behind the scenes and deserve a premiership as much as the players. I'm just one of the blokes who wants to bring this trophy home."
The Raiders squad is the reason they're on the verge of ending a 25-year premiership drought.
Guys like Williams, Hudson Young (suspended), Ryan Sutton, Siliva Havili, Sebastian Kris and Michael Oldfield.
They won' run on to the OIympic stadium to play against the Sydney Roosters, but they'll be riding the wave of every tackle and try.
"Because we all feel a part of it and that's why it's a great club," Williams said.
"No one can play every single game through the year, you do need a squad. You've got to have guys who are ready to step up, and I think you've seen this year we've found ways to win games this year even with guys out.
"It's our role to make sure the guys in the 17-man squad are ready and we'll help out in anyway possible."
