The high jump prospect cleared 1.96 metres to clinch the first Olympic qualifier of the ACT titles at the AIS over the weekend.
Patterson seemed destined for stardom when she claimed Commonwealth Games gold as an 18-year-old in 2014, becoming the third youngest Australian champion in history.
But the tide began to turn when a relationship with Athletics Australia soured and she knocked back funding from the governing body.
Patterson would soon leave the stadium in tears following her Olympic debut in Rio after bombing out of contention.
Now it seems as though Patterson has turned the corner after she linked up with coach Alex Stewart - the mentor of Brandon Starc - and began to receive funding again.
Patterson was the first to register an Olympic qualifier in Canberra this past week - but only by the length of two measly centimetres.
Athletics ACT officials say Darcy Roper's 8.20m (+1.4) leap in the men's long jump event was just two centimetres shy of an Olympic qualifier.
The championships will conclude at the AIS on Monday to cap off the biggest ACT titles seen in recent memory featuring 802 entries.
