A man, a woman and a seven-year-old boy were killed in the collision, while a nine-year-old boy was injured. Two cars collided on the Federal Highway near the Bendora Kennels in Gungahlin. The four were travelling in one car when the accident took place. The two occupants of the second car were treated for minor injuries and later released.
The deaths brought the ACT road toll for that week to four compared with none the previous year.
The total death toll for the year was 86 compared with a slightly lower 80 the previous year.
Canberra police reported a 19-year-old driver had been charged with three counts of negligent driving and would appear in court.
NSW also reported high numbers. NSW transport minister, Mr Morris, said drink and high speed were contributing factors to the high Easter road toll.
"I am quite dismal about it all," he said.
