Magistrate James Lawton committed the case of accused killer Jayscen Anthony Newby, 26, to the ACT Supreme Court on Tuesday morning.
Trial dates could be set as soon as next Thursday, when the case is mentioned for the first time in the Supreme Court.
Mr Newby has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 27-year-old Frankie Victor Prineas, who died in the early hours of January 11.
Police have previously said they responded to reports of a disturbance at the Silver Gums townhouse complex in Charnwood about 1.30am on that date.
Emergency services arrived to find Mr Prineas with "significant" stab wounds, and he died a short time later.
Following his death, Mr Prineas was described by his father Victor as "a son that any parent would have been extremely proud of".
Mr Newby handed himself in at the City Police Station about 4.30pm on January 11, about 15 hours after police began what they described as an extensive search for him across Canberra's north.
Few details of the case against the alleged killer are known at this stage of the proceedings.
Mr Newby remains in custody, having never applied for bail since his arrest.
