1. They will rock you
Rockspeare: Richard III sees the bard's murderous monarch take to the stage in a slimmed-down, 90-minute version of the Shakespeare play by Lakespeare and Co. Expect an electric and rhythmic version of Richard III that incorporates an original music score. Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm at Mallee Pavilion, Exhibition Park. Or from your lounge room, with the option to purchase a livestream ticket. Tickets are $22.19 for a livestream ticket and $85.49 for a performance ticket from Eventbrite.
2. Treat yourself
Self-care is a term that has been thrown around a lot during coronavirus so CBR Gals Network is hosting an event to introduce Canberran women to the ancient art of salt therapy. The session will guide participants through relaxation practices, as well as natural remedies to aid respiratory hygiene. Participants will be delivered some handmade, all-natural, salt-based artisan self-care products for the virtual event. Saturday, 4pm. Tickets are $59 from cbrgals.com, with 8 per cent of ticket sales being donated to the Lung Foundation Australia.
3. Welcome to the apocalypse
Capital Punishment is making its return, with the seemingly apt theme of Apocalypse. Canberra's competitive pun slam challenges you to strut your stuff against Australia's pun champions. Entry is free for contestants who feel up to filling three minutes with puns. Friday, August 7 at 8pm. Tickets are $20 for audience members (and competitors are free) from smithsalternative.com.
4. Wine and waves
Spend your Saturday afternoon on Lake Burley Griffin tasting some Canberra region wines. Winederlust and Go-Boat have teamed up to provide a two-hour cruise and wine-tasting experience every Saturday in August. Guests will receive a tote bag with stemless glass wineglass, a bottle of water, crackers and Tilba Tilba cheese, and each week will feature wine from different wineries. This Saturday will feature sparkling reds from Barton Estate and Contentious Character and finishing with a fortified shiraz from Lake George Winery. Saturday, 1.30pm. Tickets are $65 from Eventbrite.
5. Have your say
How well do we know your ancestors? Milk is a story of longing, connection and the ghosts of the past. Stranded together on a metaphysical Flinders Island off the coast of Tasmania, Milk tracks a conversation over two centuries between three Aboriginal ancestors on the verge of life-changing moments. The Street is giving viewers a chance to see the performance during the creative development process and offer feedback during a live, online event. Friday, 5pm. Free event but bookings can be made at thestreet.org.au.
