The end result? The Canterbury Bulldogs face the daunting prospect of a firing Canberra Raiders left edge led by the star five-eighth at Canberra Stadium on Sunday.
Wighton's two tries set up the Raiders' 36-16 victory over the Gold Coast on the weekend and it comes off the back of a firing George Williams in the No.7 jersey in the preceding weeks.
It had Wighton looking to get his left edge of Elliott Whitehead, Jarrod Croker and Jordan Rapana more involved.
"I just wanted to get my hands on the ball a little bit more," Wighton said.
"The last couple of weeks I feel like it's been going a lot more to Georgie and the right side, so I just wanted to get my hands on the ball a little bit more and get the ball in the boys' hands on my left edge.
"We've been together a little while and defensively we're pretty sound, and we're just starting to click again in attack.
"They're good boys to have around you. They make my job a lot easier."

One of Wighton's tries was a powerful solo run and the other was a nicely executed wraparound.
Wighton revealed Whitehead was the one who called it, the England international the first player to link up with Wighton.
Croker then ran the perfect decoy, Rapana made the linebreak and then dished it back inside for Wighton to finish off.
It took his season try tally to six - third most for the Raiders behind winger Nick Cotric (10).
Cotric finished the game on the bench with groin tightness, but was expected to be fit to face the Bulldogs.
The Raiders will be without forward Corey Harawira-Naera, who is unavailable for the game, with Kai O'Donnell potentially coming in.
It was part of the deal surrounding Harawira-Naera's mid-season move to Canberra that he couldn't play his former club.
Wighton said having both Williams and himself as attacking threats highlighted the versatility of the Green Machine.
He also felt the return of John Bateman from shoulder surgery had been one of the catalysts for that.
"We do [have versatility]. It's good having Johnny Bateman back, he's been massive, his energy, just his will to fight," Wighton said.
"He's always taking the line on, he's always there. That's been massive. It's fixed our right edge hugely.
"Curtis Scott and Nicky [Cotric] have come good. They're both on the same page and both looking very strong - breaking tackles.
"And we've just started to link up on the left a little bit."
But Wighton felt they still had a lot to work on over the final six rounds of the regular season.
"We're still not playing the type of finals footy we want to be, but we'll take those wins any day of the week," he said.
