The news of a police hunt to find the attacker who stabbed an Indian diplomat dominated the front page of The Canberra Times 43 years ago.

A massive police search throughout the ACT's south east failed to locate a man alleged to have attempted to murder and abducted an Indian military attache in Australia, Colonel Iqbal Singh.
Colonel and Mrs Singh told police a man broke into their house whilst they were sleeping. The assailant burst into their bedroom and stabbed the colonel.
Colonel and Mrs Singh were then ordered from their beds by the alleged intruder who spoke only in monosyllables.
The man was said to have used a .22 rifle to force them into their car but made no move to stab the colonel.
Despite his deep stab wound, the colonel was forced to drive his car along Cooma Road.
During struggles of grappling with the alleged offender, the car veered off the road, went through a fence and came to a holt in a ditch. The would-be assassin ran off.
A truck driver who alerted police, who then took the wounded man and his wife to hospital.
Two RAAF tracker dogs were brought to the scene, but were unable to locate any trackable leads.
