The NRL has handed out a number of bans in recent weeks, after several high-profile players were involved in incidents with the general public.
Both Corey Norman and Viktor Radley were banned for one and two games respectively after becoming involved in altercations with members of the public - Norman getting involved in a street fight, while Radley tackled someone.
NRL players can have a target on their back when they're out in public.
Raiders coach Ricky Stuart talked with his players about ensuring there weren't any more distractions in the weeks leading up to their season opener against the Wests Tigers at Canberra Stadium on Sunday.
In the past they've had a few incidents leading into the season - Jack Wighton's assault charges in 2018 and then NSW Police's unlawful arrest of Curtis Scott last season - while late last year Corey Horsburgh and Corey Harawira-Naera were charged with drink-driving offences.
"In discussion with the players we had a conversation about keeping a low profile over the fortnight leading into the competition," Stuart said.
"It was important that we looked after ourselves.
"Over the past few years there's been a couple of incidents that occurred late in the preparation leading into the competition and we all decided we didn't want that to be one of us."
MORE RAIDERS NEWS
The Raiders were hoping for a crowd of 16,000-20,000 for the Tigers clash, although a forecast for wet weather could put a dampener on that.
It would be the biggest Raiders crowd at Canberra Stadium since the 2019 preliminary final against South Sydney, with the coronavirus shutting down stadiums around the world.
There's predictions of up to 25 millimetres of rain on Sunday, which means Stuart - who often sits on the sideline to get a feel for the game - might need to take his wet weather gear.
Stuart felt Raiders fans were excited about the return to 100 per cent capacity at Canberra Stadium.
There's plenty of excitement around the Green Machine's chances after coming close to the title the past two seasons.
"It looks like it's going to be a great crowd and it's been a long time for all of us - having games where there's full capacity and people of Canberra being able to get to GIO again to watch their team," Stuart said.
"It'll still be a good crowd mate. There's not a corporate ticket available. It'll still be a good crowd.
"The hunger for wanting to watch a live game might outdo the wet weather if it happens."
