Roger Eric Olsen, who now lives in Ipswich, pleaded not guilty and declined to apply for bail when he appeared briefly in the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday.
A charge read to him by Chief Magistrate Lorraine Walker alleged Mr Olsen committed an act of indecency on a girl, aged between eight and 10, some time between August 1995 and January 1998.
ACT Policing said in a statement that investigators had previously issued Mr Olsen with a summons to face court in respect of the charge, but he had not appeared.
Detectives from the force's Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team therefore travelled to Ipswich and worked with the Queensland Police Service to have the 55-year-old arrested and extradited.
The court on Friday heard Mr Olsen also had unresolved charges of dangerous and negligent driving from the 1990s.
He did not enter pleas to those charges, with his Legal Aid duty lawyer Elizabeth West saying she had not obtained instructions on those allegations.
But Ms West did enter pleas of not guilty on Mr Olsen's behalf in relation to the act of indecency charge and two counts of failing to answer bail in 1999 and 2020.
With no application for bail on Friday, Ms Walker remanded Mr Olsen in custody and listed the case to return to court on April 30.
Mr Olsen said, "No worries, thanks", as he was led away by prison guards.
