Foreign Affairs Minister Senator Marise Payne announced Ms Wooldridge's appointment to the top role of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency on Monday evening, adding she would bring her years of experience working as a women's minister to the position.
"Ms Wooldridge brings to the role a wealth of experience from a distinguished career in the non-government sector and public service, having served from 2006 to 2020 in the Victorian Parliament," Senator Payne said in a statement.
"During this time, she served as State Minister for Mental Health and Community Services, Minister for Disability Services and Reform, and Minister for Women's Affairs."
In the role, Ms Wooldridge will play a role in the government's commitment to addressing the recommendations outlined in the Australian Human Rights Commission's Respect@Work report, working with the newly-formed Respect@Work Council.
Senator Payne thanked former WGEA director Libby Lions for her contribution to the agency over her five roles in the role.
"Ms Lyons is a passionate promoter of gender equality," Senator Payne said.
"I would like to acknowledge her strong leadership of the Agency over the past six years, and sincerely thank her for an invaluable contribution to the improvement of gender equality in the workplace."
Ms Wooldridge will begin the role from April 20, 2021.
