The case of two missing girls could have ended in disaster, but instead, ended happily. The girls, 340km away from Canberra, ended up at the Wagga Wagga police station waiting for a ride back home.

An article on the front page of The Canberra Times, on this day 46 years ago, revealed two bus-trip pupils were left behind.
Two members of a fifth-grade excursion party from Red Hill Primary School were accidentally left in Narrandera.
It was understood the pupils were counted after a stop, but that because of a mistake, The two missing pupils were Diana Weeks, of Red Hill, and Janet Peisley, of Griffith.
The principal of the school, Mr Doug Stephenson, told The Canberra Times there would have been 50 or 60 counts of the 44 children during the four-day excursion to Swan Hill.
Two teachers had been with them.
A police spokesman in Wagga said the two girls had been taken to Wagga by police in the hope they would catch up with the bus, but the bus had apparently bypassed the city.
Diana's mother drove to Wagga to pick the girls up.
