But it was hard to miss the hulking figure standing near the corner of the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre the night two Australian rivals put on an instant classic.
Justis Huni soon introduced himself to a handful of journalists and spoke of his Olympic Games ambition and the struggle to find opponents. He was a fighter who felt like he had to move heaven and earth to fight.
Yet on Wednesday he finds himself headlining a pay-per-view event as a 4-0 heavyweight in an Australian title defence against Paul Gallen at Sydney's International Convention Centre.
It's at times like these he can't help but pinch himself.
MORE BOXING
"I couldn't get any amateur fights in Australia. There were a lot of heavyweights coming through, but there were none on the elite level, which is 15 fights and more," Huni said.
"It was very hard to find fights, we started flying guys in from New Zealand to fight. I had most of my amateur fights when I was younger and at a lighter weight. Recently I had only been fighting internationally in the amateurs.
"My life has changed. It's been an awesome journey so far so I can't wait to see how far it can go, especially with the Olympics coming up, very exciting times."
Gallen offers a stern test, promising relentless pressure and furious flurries.
"I'll try and counter him on every punch so it makes him think about throwing punches," Huni said.
"It's all about being smart about what you do in the ring, it's about hitting and not getting hit. It's like playing a game of chess, you've always got to be one step ahead.
"I can't wait for it. I'm sick of all the talking back and forth, I just want to get in the ring. He's been talking about it, I want to see it."
