Some residents of Page in Belconnen, were living in fear of a barrage of branches and heavy lumps of bark falling from several large diseased trees in the area.
Mrs John Small, of De Vis Place told Times that the trouble had begun in February.
She and her infant son were standing in their back garden when they were narrowly missed by a huge branch which fell from a big old tree.
Other Page residents nearby, experienced similar cases. They reported incidents of cut-off phone lines, blocked entrances, smashed roof tiles, crushed guttering and one resident was struck on the head.
Residents felt it was too dangerous to let their children play outside.
A Department of the Interior tree surgeon inspected the trees and had informed the residents that the trees were more than 100-years-old.
Mr Small was advised to get a quote for removal of at least the top of the tree in his backyard. The lowest quote was $180.
