As the nation reopens following COVID restrictions, Australians have returned to local cafes, classrooms, workplaces, and events where they may be exposed to bacteria and viruses living in the air.

As a result, air purifiers are receiving more attention than usual, effectively protecting against respiratory issues by filtering the air from dangerous airborne particles.
Samsung air purifiers use a multi-layered purification system to remove up to 99.97 per cent of ultra-fine dust and airborne bacteria.
The air passes through three filter walls with each filter targeting different sized particles. This three-stage process combs through air particles to help ensure indoor spaces are pollutant and bacteria free.
Earlier this year COVID-19 Quarantine Victoria placed Samsung air purifiers in the hotel rooms of quarantining travellers and patients, and the Department of Education and Training Victoria chose them as part of the safe return-to-school plan.
While their benefits post lockdown may be front of mind, it's not the only reason air purifiers might be worth considering this summer.
The team at Samsung has outlined some of the reasons this appliance should be added to your Christmas wishlist.
Post-COVID entertaining
This summer, many of us will be inviting more people into our homes, entertaining friends and family during the festive season and school holidays. When opening your home for entertaining, guests (especially those who've recently had a cold or have pets at home) may also bring unwelcome particles into the house.
Air purifiers help filter out any nasty bacteria and ultra-fine dust, and those with built-in Wi-Fi allow you to monitor your home's air quality levels remotely.
If you have people coming for dinner but you're held up at work, you can track the air quality and turn on the air purifier remotely. You can also check in on the filter and be alerted to when it needs to be changed.
Allergies
Springtime in Australia (and for some, early summer) brings with it a wave of hay fever symptoms, which are caused by grassy pollen lingering in the air.
Air purifiers are designed to target and filter airborne pollen to reduce hay fever irritation to the eyes, nose and throat, and assist with everyday allergy protection.
If your pet spends time outdoors there's also a good chance it is bringing grass and pollen into the house, potentially causing hay fever flare ups.
With Health Direct reporting that one in five Australians having a form of pet allergy, air purifiers can reduce any allergy reactions by removing pet hair from the air.
Air purifiers can also prevent crawling babies and four legged friends from inhaling dust particles and dirt living in the fibres of carpets. Indoor pets are more susceptible to polluted air because they spend most of their time close to the ground, where harmful particles often settle.
Air purifiers can also assist asthma sufferers, by reducing the chances of you inhaling any potential smoke.
Bushfire season
Many Australians have experienced the effects of a bushfire season. While those in rural and remote Australia may have faced this firsthand, sometimes urbanites can't escape the smoke that often drapes cities in summer. A University of Melbourne study testing air purifier capabilities revealed a room full of smoke can be cleared in under 10 minutes.
The perfect place
The ideal place for an air purifier is in the rooms where you will be spending the most time. Specifically, it's best placed next to a window or door so it can catch and filter entering particles before it pollutes the room.
Sizes matter
Air purifiers can be easily moved around the home, so when looking at the sizes ensure it can cover your largest rooms.
For example, Samsung's largest air purifier covers 90 metres squared, ideal for larger areas such as open plan living rooms, cafes and offices. The next one down filters 60 metres squared, ideal for medium sized rooms like a study or lounge room, while the model that covers 40 metres squared is suitable for smaller rooms such as a bedroom or study.
