A motorist who drove 73km/h above the speed limit made a deliberate choice to put others in danger, police say.

The 24-year-old driver lost six demerit points and was fined $1841 for driving 173km/h in a 100km/h zone along the Majura Parkway.
About 10pm on Sunday, a Ford Mustang GT driver was caught by police travelling southbound.
The driver was issued with an infringement for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.
Officer in Charge ACT Road Policing, Detective Acting Inspector Paul Hutcheson said this kind of reckless driving is what contributed to ACT road fatalities.
"The message here is to slow down. You can't just drive this fast 'by mistake', it's a deliberate choice to put other road users in danger," he said.
"There is absolutely no reason to be driving that fast."
