Who said vaudeville was dead?
Lucy Matthews says Flaunt It and Haunt It is "a vaudeville evening with a great variety of theatre, burlesque, comedy and music: a whole range of wonderful acts".
It's presented by Matthews (under her nom de burlesque Tiger Lily) and Krewd experimental theatre company director Bambi Valentine.
Matthews describes it as "political performance art and absurdism" that is "exploring the very emotions and vulnerabilities that make us human and life so precious".
She says, "The medium of vaudeville is so exciting , so rough and ready - you get a group of performers together with completely different energies ... there's an exciting dynamism.
"It's a challenge but we're figuring it out - it's lots of fun."
Matthews will perform as her alter ego Tiger Lily, an "avid radical feminist and songwriting powerhouse", and will be playing the saxophone and line dancing.
"I'll be trying to do it at the same time - I like to challenge myself."
Canberra duo Sweaty Pits Comedy (aka Frances McNair and Miriam Slater) will present their first show since they returned from the Melbourne Fringe, where they were nominated for best new comedy. They will do a range of skits that Matthews says "are very funny and very topical".
They won the Sydney Fringe tour ready award.
Valentine will do a combination of theatre piece and burlesque that deals with "the nature of being human" and Evan M. Buckley is a singer and guitarist whom Matthews describes as "a great storyteller".
He also performs as his sleazy alter ego Golden Boi who debuted at Canberra Eurovision and who, Matthews says, "invites you to savour a sensual smorgasbord of sex, songs and showtime".
Comedian Frankie (aka Frances) McNair "blurs the line between stand, physical comedy and a Liza Minnelli fever dream" and InkBits is "the queen of punk-rock cabaret".
And there's more, including AMBi (Slater), "an absurd manifestation of the non-binary experience".
You get the idea. There will also be best-dressed prizes for those who really flaunt it and haunt it.
