Amazon produces fake version of Acting EL1 shirt after online success

Canberra, you couldn't get enough of the Acting EL1 T-shirt we covered yesterday - and it now seems Amazon is attempting to cash in on the shirt's virality.

A new listing for an Acting EL1 shirt went live on Amazon's international site overnight, looking remarkably similar to the original design by Canberra creative agency Foundry.

The differences are you can get the Amazon version in a range of colours, minus the #flexlife hash tag, and for about half the price.

The listing for the Acting EL1 T-shirt went 'live' on Amazon on October 19, the same day our story ran, with Amazon promoting the new shirt via direct comments on Reddit.

Foundry creative director and original designer of the Acting EL1 T-shirt Mat Colley said he was disappointed the global giant was capitalising on an idea that was meant to be a Canberra "in-joke".

"I don't think there's really anything I can do," Colley said.

"I don't own the words, and it's not an exact copy, so while it's a cheap shot, it's not illegal.

"I just hope those people keen to buy the T-shirt support the local business that had the original idea."

Amazon has been approached for comment.
