Police raided a home at Mount Louisa in Townsville yesterday and claim to have found up to $80,000 worth of stolen goods inside a shipping container.
The 57-year-old man is accused of stealing goods which were drying out in the yards of flood affected homes and businesses between February 1 and 21.
Police say they found expensive leather furniture, dining tables and suites, beds, fridges and washing machines.
Police say they were alerted to the alleged thief on Thursday morning when a member of the public claimed to have seen him looting a property in Idalia.
He was arrested in the front yard of a house Summerlake Court that morning.
The 57-year-old Mount Louisa man has been charged with two counts of stealing and was set to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on March 22.
Extra police are patrolling these areas and say people should stay away from flood affected streets unless they have a legitimate reason to be there.
