Figures from the ACT Environment Protection Authority found of the 2716 complaints received by the government body in 2017-18, 2177 of those were for excessive noise.

Among the most common noise complaints were for amplified music, construction sites and noise from air conditioning units or heater systems.

Hume topped the list for the most noise complaints with 101, followed by Kaleen with 98, Belconnen with 82, Kambah on 81 and Civic on 64 complaints.

Braddon, Kingston, Isabella Plains, Deakin and Harrison also rounded out the top 10.

Among the complaints issued to the authority were for a rave in Fyshwick held in May, with residents as far away as Googong woken by the noise.

Noise complaints were also made for several bush dance parties, known as 'bush doofs', in Tharwa.

A spokeswoman said it is difficult to determine whether complaints had increased in the past financial year as the authority had introduced a new system to deal with community issues raised.

"Prior to the introduction of the new systems, the number of complaints the EPA received increased approximately five to 10 per cent each year," the spokeswoman said.

"The community raise concerns on a range of issues in both residential and industrial settings. This can include issues around noise, water quality and air pollution - most generally smoke."

The noise complaint figures come as the ACT government introduces a new online portal for Canberrans to deal with excessive noise.

The portal will include information on how to deal with noise complaints and noise-threshold levels.

Business and Regulatory Services Minister Gordon Ramsay said spring and summer are the busiest times of year for noise complaints.

"Most residential noise complaints occur between neighbours and we often find that a resident will not be aware that their noise is affecting a neighbour," Mr Ramsay said.

"Spring is often when complaints around parties, loud music, gardening and power tools, pool pumps and air conditioners start to increase."

Data from the authority also revealed just three infringement notices were handed out over the financial year, netting it $1400.

More than 700 inspections were carried in the 12-month period of known or potentially contaminated areas around Canberra to review if appropriate approvals were being carried out on the site.

Nine contaminated sites were also reviewed in 2017-18 by independent auditors, with the sites being redeveloped after being impacted by asbestos or hydrocarbons.

All nine of the sites were cleared.

The spokeswoman for the authority said 775 development site inspections took place in the past financial year and multiple environmental authorisations were issued.

An environmental authorisation is a list of conditions set out to the owner of a site where there is potential for significant harm to the environment.

"The EPA issued 33 environmental authorisations, bringing the number currently administered by the EPA to 286, which are subject to review," the spokeswoman said.

Warnings were also issued to three Canberra restaurants after they were found to have tipped kitchen waste down storm water drains.

Inspectors visited 25 restaurants in Belconnen, O'Connor, Manuka, Kingston, Civic and Braddon as part of a crackdown on the practice.

"The EPA has conducted follow-up inspections of the three premises and found no non-compliance," the spokeswoman said.

The operation focused on kitchen maintenance and cleaning areas at the back of the restaurants.
