His blog is read by teachers from more than 170 countries, he's designing a maths-themed mini-golf course for a former pro-golfer. And he's just been named Canberra's top maths teacher.

Radford College's Bruce Ferrington is fast becoming a well-known name around the staff room table.
But while he trains his students to look for patterns, he admits he can't work out if there's one in his three-decade-long and now award-winning career as a primary school teacher.
When he was in school, Mr Ferrington liked three things: reading books, playing guitar and working with kids. Maths was never part of the equation.
On Friday, he took home the teaching excellence award for the ACT at this year's Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute awards.
Weaving between students in a brightly coloured Dr Seuss tie, Mr Ferrington admits maths is now his "happy place".
"I didn't have a teacher who inspired me at school or anything, I made it up as I went along," he says.
"As a teacher I got bored teaching maths and if I was bored, the kids were bored so I started taking it outside.
In Mr Ferrington's Year 2 class, lessons are as likely to be held in the playground or a park as in front of a whiteboard.
"Classrooms are so artificial," Mr Ferrington says.
"Taking maths outside makes it real, you're taking it into their world, it's not just a concept."
In his spare time, the teacher is also helping design a mini-golf course in South Australia at the invitation of its owner, former pro-golfer Peter Radford.
"That will be all about maths and shapes, and he wants to invite school groups in," Mr Ferrington said.
This year, he was also awarded a $5000 grant from the ACT government to design a series of maths programs for early childhood educators to take outdoors. The project will be available to all Canberra pre-schools by the end of 2018.
While he now has a regular gig lecturing at the Australian Catholic University, Mr Ferrington's musings on the classroom were already religiously read by thousands of teachers visiting his blog, Authentic Inquiry Maths, each day, where he shares reflections from the school day.
His top tip to teachers? Be creative.
"Set the expectation that everyone will find their own solution, all kids are on their own journeys," he says.
"The nice thing [for me] is when students get in touch and say I still love maths, that's really something."
