ACT Wildlife staff realised the female quoll had left the Gungahlin reserve thanks to her radio tracker.

She was recaptured by Monday night, giving rangers the chance to share the process with the residents of her adopted Forde home, Mulligans Flat Sanctuary manager Will Batson said.

"They loved Mulligans Flat already but were really excited to have some of the wildlife come into their property," he said.

Eastern quolls were first released into Mulligans Flat in March last year after an 80-year absence from the ACT.

Mr Batson said their introduction had been "very successful" with babies already born to a number of females.

This week's would-be escapee wasn't the first to make a break for it and rangers have taken a number of precautions ahead of the impending release of up to 15 more quolls.

"The fences are very much designed to keep animals out so they've had to retrofit it to keep certain animals in," Mr Batson said.

"We're also reducing the amount of stress on the animals, so we'll release them in slow increments with a few days apart and we're delivering them as quietly as possible and disturbing them as little as possible, which is a bit different to last year when we had the big kind of media event."

Mr Batson encouraged anyone who saw a quoll to contact ACT Wildlife or the Mulligans Flat Sanctuary directly.

"If people could keep an eye out for any sightings outside the fence, even if it's not in your backyard and you don't know exactly where the animal is, we'd be interested in hearing about it," he said.

"It'd be really good as well if people could keep their cats contained in those cat containment suburbs and dogs on leads where they're meant to and things like that - it'd be really helpful for the program."
