The Emergency Services Agency said ACT Fire & Rescue put out the fire in the Design Warehouse, Hume, by 12.45pm.
"Damage to the building was contained to a metal flue extraction system," it said in a statement.
"The fire is believed to have started in a painting booth facility."
They said it was caused by a mechanical failure within the extraction system.
Firefighters sent three fire pumpers, the Bronto Skylift Hydraulic Platform, the Breathing Apparatus Support Van and two command vehicles attended the scene.
