Kristen Henry will marry her fiance Iain Davidson at the Blanket Bay luxury lodge outside Queenstown over the first weekend in May. The exact day of the wedding is still a mystery to the 44 guests who will receive an itinerary upon their arrival.
"We wanted to create a memory with our nearest and dearest," Kristen said, of choosing New Zealand for the venue.
"This is more than a wedding; it's a three-day adventure holiday together which includes activities and amazing food and wine experiences."
The couple had their Canberra reception for 130 guests at the Level 15 lounge at the QT last Saturday where they "laughed, cried and danced into the early hours of the morning". Her breakfast co-host Nigel Johnson worked on special audio packages that played throughout the night, celebrating the couple and their family.
For the reception, Kristen wore a custom white tuxedo jumpsuit made by Manuka legend Gloria Grady,
"My wedding dress will be a custom-designed Steven Khalil gown, which has been eight months in the making," she said.
"I've been busy making multiple trips to Sydney for design consultations and fittings. We've become such good friends, Steven as a wedding gift, is gifting me my veil as I originally didn't want one but he insists I have one."
Goulburn hair and makeup artist Diana Cheetham, the woman behind Fashfest, will be flown over to NZ as her hair and makeup artist for the wedding. "We've worked together for years," Kristen said.
Iain, a commercial property specialist for Colliers International, and Kristen, met at Hospcotch on Lonsdale Street in Braddon in October, 2014.
"I had the gusto to kiss him on the first night then not answer his calls for a few months, which earnt me the nickname of 'non respondo' amongst his friendship group," she said.
"Iain loves my sense of humour and love for life. Iain is my biggest supporter, always so encouraging of my ideas like the Channel K trip of Canberra women to the royal wedding [for Harry and Meghan].".
The couple will enjoy two weeks of downtime in New Zealand following the wedding.
It's a well-earned rest for Kristen. She and Johnson can now lay claim to having the number one breakfast show in Canberra after they won the first ratings survey for 2019, soon after Johnson returned to commercial radio late last year. The show gained an impressive 4.7 percentage points since the last survey, putting Mix 106.3 firmly in the lead position for breakfast.
Canberra FM Radio content director Rod Cuddihy even went so far as to call the Kristen and Nige breakfast show "the most local show in the city".
Kristen says they will be "well-rested" before returning to the airwaves on May 13.
