A man was trapped in his car and in a critical condition after a head-on crash that closed the Barton Highway near Murrumbatemen.

The two-car accident happened about 4pm between Murrumbateman and Yass.
According to a NSW Ambulance spokesperson, paramedics had been called to the scene to treat two patients.
One patient, a 24-year-old man, was trapped in his vehicle and in a critical conditions. Paramedics were treating him for a number of injuries, including chest, hip, pelvis and wrist. NSW Fire and Rescue freed the man from the wreckage about 5.30pm, and he was taken to Canberra Hospital by the SnowyHydro South Care helicopter.
Another patient was also treated for lower leg injuries.
At the time of writing, the Barton Highway was closed in both directions, and motorists were being advised to use the Federal and Hume Highways to travel between Canberra and Yass.
Northbound traffic is being diverted onto Murrumbateman Road, while southbound traffic is being diverted via the Hume Highway.
A police spokesperson said the Barton Highway could be closed for an extended period, and crime scene detectives had been notified.
