It was one of two violent assaults in the inner south reported by police.
ACT Police said they were called to a Kingston restaurant about 9.15pm "after a report that a man had been ‘bottled’."
"Police located the 34-year-old victim at the intersection of Giles and Jardine Street, and he informed police that he had been assaulted by up to 12 men. The victim was conveyed to hospital for treatment," they said in a statement.
Police are looking for witness to the assault, and ask anyone who can help their investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
Earlier in the day, police charged a 26-year-old man after he assaulted two people in Narrabundah.
"Around 5:45pm, police attended Gowrie Court, McIntyre Street after receiving reports that a person had been assaulted," they said.
"Police attended the location and found two people, a 38-year-old man and 30-year-old woman, both from Narrabundah with assault-related injuries. Both were conveyed to hospital."
Officers found the 26-year-old man at a nearby bus stop and were able to identify him after detailed information was provided by witnesses.
"The man was arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court," police said.
