The eight-year-old mare took her third win of four starts at the Queanbeyan track, beating local favourite Tag and Release in the biggest race of the club's calendar on Sunday.
But trainer Matthew Stephens knew the rising stayer would be right in the mix to upset Joe Cleary's gelding in the $35,000 Queanbeyan Cup.
Whispered Prayer bounced straight to the front and held first position by half-a-length for the most of the race.
Stephen's mare surged ahead in the final 200 metres to beat Treasure the Love by 2.55 lengths, with Tag and Release rounding out the podium.
"She's an absolute speciality on this track, it just seems to agree with her," Stephens said.
"Tag and Release took us on and she's a very strong runner out front and anyone who takes her on drops off, but she held in quite well.
"On the back of the run from Gundagai, the Hair of the Dog Cup, I knew she'd be right for this [on Sunday]. She just hadn't taken a step backwards.
"She's been working beautifully and doing everything right. I've won three in a row in Queanbeyan so it went really well. I expected she could do it."
Whispered Prayer has been consistent all through her preparation, having won three of her last six starts.
Stephens will enter the eight-year-old stayer in the Bega Cup next February as he works his way down the New South Wales coast.
Jockey Brendan Ward has ridden the Whispered Prayer for her last four races, taking the mare to three consecutive podium finishes.
"We're doing a Cup circuit down the coast, we'll freshen her up and focus on the Bega Cup," Stephens said.
The 46-year-old jockey will take the saddle when the Stephen-trained Easy Mover races in the 12000 metre maiden at the Sapphire Coast next Monday.
Locally trained Kiss My Swiss won the class three handicap by 1.77 lengths for Cleary's stable, while trainer Doug Gorrel won the Thunderbolt handicap with Exaggerate.
