The National Capital Development Commission completed 587 of the original target of 1505 government-housing units within the financial year reported the Canberra Times this day, 46 years ago. Given ideal conditions, commission officers believe they could exceed the induced target, but because of material shortages, and uncertainty about the weather and availability of labour, were not confident of reaching it. To reach the reduced tarted, the commission would have had to complete more than 400 houses within two months. Only 206 were completed. However, a commission spokesperson had said that work was in progress on 1300 house and many of these were well advanced. Despite the adverse weather conditions, the commission expected to "go very close" to its target of turning off enough serviced land for about 7300 housing units.
