Fifty-four Canberra suburbs are now more than half covered by the new "fifth generation" mobile technology, and some have it available across the whole suburb.
Telstra has rolled out coverage to areas in 32 major and regional cities and has said it is on track to deliver 5G in selected areas of 35 cities by mid-year.
The company's regional general manager Chris Taylor said the ACT milestone was another big step in the company's continued roll out and investment in 5G technology.
"2020 is going to be the year of 5G and our focus is on continuing to expand our 5G coverage so we can bring it to more areas across Canberra and the ACT," Mr Taylor said.
The 5G technology delivered faster download speeds, lower latency and greater network capacity, he said.
It is touted as the next leap in mobile technology, relieving congested data traffic, allowing downloads that take seconds, and improving streaming and gaming.
Mr Taylor said 4G customers would also have greater network capacity as 5G was rolled out.
Many other Canberra suburbs already have some 5G coverage but are less than half covered by the new network.
