The Sixers all-rounder admits the 2020-21 summer was "a bit weird" after every team was moved into one central location to avoid dramas caused by border restrictions.
A spike in coronavirus cases in Sydney shows just how quickly the landscape can change but Reakes is hoping for a return to normality which would see teams based in their own cities and travelling interstate for matches.
"Hopefully this season it looks a little bit different and we're not in a COVID bubble," Reakes said.
"I think last year was an interesting year where we were all sort of forced into a hotel with the other seven teams and it was an interesting space to be in.

"Fingers crossed that we can get back to travelling around the states again and play a season as usual.
"It was a bit weird when you were having breakfast with the other teams or the team that you were playing against that day or two days later.
"I think some people really thrived in it, I personally really enjoyed it but others didn't and I think that made it really tough for some teams.
"If you didn't really enjoy it there was no way out but hopefully this year it's set up as usual and everyone is sort of catered for."
Reakes isn't worried that the current COVID situation in Sydney will force another bubble for the cricketers.
"I guess that's always the risk with COVID but my biggest worry is for the safety and welfare for everyone in Sydney rather than whether we have to play in a bubble or not, I think that is the most important thing," Reakes said.
Reakes' signature looms as a massive coup for a Sixers outfit now without South African sensation Marizanne Kapp, with the ACT Meteors captain eyeing a finals berth in Sydney.
"The Sixers have a great brand of cricket. I've seen in the media that we've no longer got 'Kappy' playing with us so it will be interesting to see what changes our team has and hopefully we can have a good team set up that gets us through to finals this year," Reakes said.
"I think last season we spent eight months training and we got to play for three months or something like that.
"I think getting back into playing games, we've got an experienced side and I hope that I can fulfil my role."
