Ingrid shares these tips for getting your skin routine back on track.
1. No longer is it enough to just cleanse, tone, and moisturise. Particularly for those over 35, active serums are non-negotiable and will positively change the way your skin functions at a cellular level.
When opting for an active serum, look for a good retinol - the gold standard for slowing down ageing. Be sure to invest in a good vitamin C serum, for protection from UV (and to) increase collagen production, something that drops off rapidly as we age.
And finally, a serum with niacinamide is also very important in assisting to turn back the clock. Once you've found a serum that incorporates these ingredients, focus on a daily commitment to ensure ongoing and long term results.
2. Twice weekly exfoliation is important for our skin to increase its cellular turnover. Avoid harsh scrub-like exfoliants if you've mature skin, as these can cause inflammation. Instead, opt for enzyme-based exfoliants that will chemically break down dead skin cells for a more youthful looking skin tone and instant glow.
3. One of the most important skincare rules is to ensure you're following a balanced diet and incorporating healthy habits into your daily routine. For many, these have fallen by the wayside during lockdown.
A simple way to combat this is by taking a daily vitamin D supplement. Not only will this aid with the production of collagen, it contributes to skin cell regrowth and repair.
