A man in his 80s with the virus died, bringing the total number of COVID deaths in the ACT to 16.
It is the first death from COVID in the ACT since December 8.
The new 1508 cases - a daily record for the territory - bring the active total to 6302.
There are 28 people in hospital because of COVID. Four of them are in intensive care, and three are being ventilated.
There were 4436 negative tests received in the 24 hours to 9am Tuesday.
Meanwhile, nearly one in four adults in the ACT have had their booster vaccination. Of over 18s, 24.3 per cent have gotten a third jab.
On Friday, the ACT government announced tougher controls to try to slow the accelerating spread of COVID.
"With COVID-19 cases across the border growing rapidly, and the ACT experiencing more than a thousand new cases today, these measures are necessary to slow the spread of the virus," Chief Minister Andrew Barr said.
"Mandatory face masks, density limits and other public health measures for businesses and indoor venues will also continue.
"Events will continue with ACT Health working closely with event organisers to ensure COVID safety plans are in place."

NSW has recorded 25,870 COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths, after the state recorded its deadliest day of the pandemic on Monday with 18 dead.
The new cases were diagnosed from 71,235 PCR tests undertaken in the 24-hours to 8pm on Monday.
There are 2187 patients in hospital, 170 of them in ICU.
Victoria has recorded another 13 deaths from COVID-19 and 37,994 new cases, with 18,503 reported through rapid tests.
There are 171,369 active coronavirus cases in the state and 861 patients in hospital, 117 cases are in the ICU and 27 on ventilation.
Tasmania has recorded 1379 new COVID-19 cases, with 1015 self-reported positive rapid antigen tests and 364 PCR tests, taking the state's number of active infections to 8356.
The health department says seven people are being treated in hospital specifically for COVID-19, down from 11 reported on Monday.
