Canberra taxi plate owner Phil Button has been slapped down by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission over a suggestion that plate owners should use their control of the taxi dispatch system to protect the value of their taxi plates.
Mr Button is among 170 owners of taxi plates whose value have been hit by the ACT government's deregulation of the industry as Uber arrived in the territory.

It only seems like yesterday that Brumbies outside back Andrew Smith left Canberra to try his luck overseas.
It was less than 18 months ago when the 30-year-old ended his Brumbies career with 50 Super Rugby caps to his name to take up a contract with Irish club Munster. A short stint with French side Montpellier followed before Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham came calling with the offer of a two-year deal.

- ACT Meteors batter Claire Koski will be reunited with teammate Erin Osborne in the inaugural Women's Big Bash League after signing with the Sydney Thunder.

7.56am: We've received reports of debris / plasterboard strewn across the southbound lanes of Ginninderra Drive. Traffic is slow but picks up again afterwards. Take care if you're headed that way!

On Thursday night Consie Lamour, 80, joined friends Dawn La Fontaine, 84, and Gwen Gleeson, 86, in a club pentathlon - that's a 100 metre sprint, shot put, long jump, javelin and an 800 metre run all in a limited time.
As octogenarian athletes, they've learned not to take their good health for granted.
